Wax Removal (Including Microsuction)
When wax is blocking your ear canal, you won't be able to hear as clearly as when there is an unobstructed pathway for sound vibrations to reach your eardrum.
Wax build up typically gets worse as we age. Some people can manage this by earwax spray, earwax drops or water syringing. However, some people are unable to use these methods or experience discomfort. Clarissa has been comprehensively trained in several wax removal techniques including using specialised tools for manual removal as well as in microsuction.

Adult Hearing Assessments
Clarissa will delve into the reasons for needing a hearing assessment, ask relevant questions regarding your current ear health and ear history, and potentially discuss how your hearing may be impacting your everyday life.
Working collaboratively with you, a plan will then be developed for what to achieve in this initial appointment. It may range from checking for wax through to a full diagnostic hearing assessment, but Clarissa will explain this process each step of the way.

Child Hearing Assessments
Clarissa has extensive experience testing the hearing of children from age 4 and above. Hearing levels can be assessed using play audiometry and relies on the child being able to tolerate wearing headpones or earbuds. Middle ear assessment is taken using a tympanometer which can be performed as long as there is no fluid leaking from the ear. Clarissa will explain this process each step of the way and at the same time, putting the child at ease and making it a simple and fun experience for them.
It is recommended for children to have their hearing checked whenever there are concerns raised (often from an educator), prior to starting the first year of school and is usually a requirement before starting speech therapy.

Independent Hearing Advice
If hearing aids are recommended, our audiologist will discuss the latest technology suitable for your lifestyle, your hearing, your budget and most importantly, what you are hoping to improve.
As a fully independent practice, we are not obligated to sell any particular manufacturer and can offer extended trial periods (up to one month) to ensure peace of mind that the device chosen will meet your expectations.

Hearing Devices
As an independent and locally owned small business, Darling Downs Audiology is not owned by a hearing aid manufacturer. This means that Clarissa is able to give you the choice of the style, brand and features of hearing aids and will base her recommendation on your lifestyle and individual circumstances. For some people, alternative listening devices such as TV headphones or devices to hear the doorbell might be all that is required at this stage.
