Services we provide
Hearing Education
Clarissa is able to provide education regarding Optimising Hearing, Hearing Protection, Hearing Devices, Tinnitus and Communication Strategies. This may be in the form of individual appointments, small group sessions or workshops.
As a passionate teacher, Clarissa believes in the power of knowledge and is always keen to speak at workshops for community members, in aged care facilities (both staff and/or residents), and in schools and day care centres. Watch this space for online webinars and tutorials.

Hearing Aid Batteries
Top quality hearing aid batteries from Germany
$6 per packet of 6 ($1 per battery)
$50 per box of 60 (< 85c per battery)

Wax Removal (Including Microsuction) $75
When wax is blocking your ear canal, you won't be able to hear as clearly as when there is an unobstructed pathway for sound vibrations to reach your eardrum.
Wax build up typically gets worse as we age. Some people can keep on top of this by using earwax spray, earwax drops or seeing a nurse for irrigation using a syringe. However, some people are unable to manage these methods or may experience discomfort. Clarissa has been comprehensively trained in several wax removal techniques including using specialised tools for manual removal as well as in microsuction.

Adult Hearing Assessments $150*
Clarissa will delve into the reasons for needing a hearing assessment, ask relevant questions regarding your current ear health and ear history, and potentially discuss how your hearing may be impacting your everyday life.
Working collaboratively with you, a plan will then be developed for what to achieve in this initial appointment. It may range from checking for wax through to a full diagnostic hearing assessment, but Clarissa will explain this process each step of the way.

Child Hearing Assessments $75
Clarissa has extensive experience testing the hearing of children from age 4 and above. Hearing levels can be assessed using play audiometry and relies on the child being able to tolerate wearing headpones or earbuds. Middle ear assessment is taken using a tympanometer which can be performed as long as there is no fluid leaking from the ear. Clarissa will explain this process each step of the way and at the same time, putting the child at ease and making it a simple and fun experience for them.
It is recommended for children to have their hearing checked whenever there are concerns raised (often from an educator), prior to starting the first year of schooling or before starting speech therapy.

Independent Hearing Advice
If hearing aids are recommended, our audiologist will discuss the latest technology suitable for your lifestyle, your hearing, your budget and most importantly, what you are hoping to improve.
As a fully independent practice, we are not obligated to sell any particular manufacturer and can offer extended trial periods (up to one month) to ensure peace of mind that the device chosen will meet your expectations.

Hearing Aids*
As an independent and locally owned small business, Darling Downs Audiology is not owned by a hearing aid manufacturer. This means that Clarissa is able to give you the choice of the style, brand and features of hearing aids and will base her recommendation on your hearing loss, lifestyle and individual circumstances.
If you have purchased hearing aids elsewhere and currently not wearing them, we offer a reconditioning service to get them back in your ears so that you can be hearing optimally again (provided they still work!). This is a service you'll be hard pushed to find provided by the hearing aid chains.

Alternative Listening Devices
For some people, alternative listening devices such as TV headphones or devices to hear the doorbell might be all that is required. Audeara headphones and buds can connect via Bluetooth the TV, mobile, laptops etc and can be tailored to your hearing levels. Best endorsement was when a patient told us it was the first time in years they'd been able to hear the emotion in the singer's voice in years. Audeara products are designed in Australia, created by Brisbane GP, Dr James Fielding.
Training for Professionals
As a qualified teacher with over 10 years experience in the classroom, Clarissa has an infectious desire to share her knowledge with others. By training GP's, Nurses, Speech Pathologists and Teachers in hearing related issues, the greater the reach of people whose lives will benefit.
