What Darling Downs Audiology gets asked a lot!
Whilst audiometrists learn on the job for 2 years and can obtain a TAFE qualification, their breadth of scope is limited to hearing aids and for a limited type of hearing loss and ear conditions, they are obliged to seek the advice of an accredited audiologist.
An audiologist is someone who has completed at least 5 years university study, comprising of a relevant undergraduate degree and a Masters qualification in Audiology. They have extensive knowledge in all types of hearing losses, can diagnose hearing disorders and provide appropriate hearing rehabilitation, knowledge of medical conditions that affect hearing and experience with a range of ear diseases and disorders. Audiologists work in conjunction with Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists in the provision of ear and hearing care.
An audiologist's work involves preserving, managing, improving and educating people about hearing and their ability to process and understand sounds, and their balance.

Yes. If tinnitus is bothersome, there are a number of options available. Whilst tinnitus is very common, it is often not discussed and when it is raised, it's effects on someone's quality of life is generally dismissed. What may work to relieve tinnitus for one person won't necessarily work for the next. The first step to managing your tinnitus is a comprehensive hearing and tinnitus assessment. Based on those results we can determine the best course of action to help you with your tinnitus. Don't put off seeking treatment, whilst some people will be able to enjoy a tinnitus free existence, most will at least be able to make it more manageable.
Our hearing aids typically range from $2,500 for a pair up to $8,000. These prices will vary depending upon the specific devices and what funding you may be eligible for. If you’re looking for a quote on a specific device, please get in touch.
Clarissa has substantial experience in testing children's hearing for 4 year olds and above. Hearing tests for children can include otoscopy, play audiometry and tympanometry. Please get in touch to discuss if your child doesn't like their ears being touched, Clarissa will give you some ideas for play to do beforehand so that the appointment isn't wasted.
No, you do not have to keep going back to the same clinic. As an independently owned and operated clinic, Darling Downs Audiology are able to work with all brands of hearing aids. Being able to provide this flexibility was a catalyst for Clarissa to create Darling Downs Audiology (along with her passion for person-centered care, which unfortunately is sadly lacking in the Australian hearing industry landscape).
We are proud to be 100% independent. That means we aren't owned by any hearing aid manufacturers and are not bound by any contracts to only sell their brand (unlike the majority of hearing aid chain stores). We can fit hearing aids and assistive listening devices such as TV headphones from any of the major manufacturers available in Australia. This allows us to choose the device which best matches your individual hearing needs rather than being limited by the offerings of only one (or two) manufacturer.
